Aileen was born on the family farm in rural Riverside, Iowa on Nov. 2, 1923, the daughter of Reno and Rose (Heitzman) Kron. For many years, Aileen worked not only on the family farm but also as a cashier at the Iowa Memorial Union and it wasn't until the late 1960s, when she moved permanently to Iowa City.
Aileen was a wonderful lady who had many interests. She loved to travel with her family and friends, enjoyed playing cards with many different card groups, liked to sew, knit and make jewelry, or anything that she could give away as a gift, and thoroughly enjoyed bowling and participating in various bowling leagues. Aileen also was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and was a lifelong season ticket holder for Iowa men's basketball and football.
She was also a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside, and most recently attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Rose Rogers of North Liberty, Doris (Bill) Durand of Sunnyvale, Calif., Linda Klein of Iowa City, Harry (Marlene) Frantz of Iowa City, Wayne (Patty) Frantz of Iowa City, Don (Jane) Frantz of Coralville, Ron (Linda) Kron of Iowa City, Tom (Carla) Kron of Sandy Hook, Conn., and Kathy Lilli of Iowa City; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Alberta Frantz; a brother, Richard Kron; and a nephew, Richard Frantz.
Aileen was truly loved by many family and friends and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to offer their sincere appreciation to the staff at Crestview Nursing and Rehab Center for the compassionate care they provided to Aileen during her final years.
