Kromminga, Genevieve Ruth
Genevieve Ruth Kromminga, 85, died Jan. 1, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone, with the Rev. Andrew Wright officiating. Private committal services will be held at Keystone Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone.
A memorial fund has been established.
Genevieve was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Dysart to John and Rose (Stahr) Konicek. On Dec. 15, 1947, she was united in marriage to Edmund “Eddie” Kromminga at the St. John Lutheran Parsonage in Keystone. He preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 2009.
A member of St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone, Genevieve served with the Dorcas Guild and enjoyed quilting. In her leisure she loved gardening and flowers.
She will be fondly remembered for her generous heart and as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend to those she loved.
Before her retirement she was employed as a custodian with the Benton Community School District.
Genevieve is survived by her six children, Daniel (Deb) Kromminga of Albany, Ga., Denese Kromminga of Solon, Jill (Jeff Risk) Kromminga of Iowa City, Jeffrey (Darla) Kromminga of Keystone, John (Margo) Kromminga of Johnston and Kara (Michael) Cobb of Urbandale; 13 grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Feuerbach and Beverly (Bud) Wentworth; and her brother, Duane (Marilyn) Konicek.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Rose; her sisters, Violet Cox, Maxine Podhajsky, Pat Fry, LaVonne Kouba and Eleanor Andresen; her brothers, Donald, Marvin and Harold Konicek; and her stepgrandchild, Tyler Creel.
