KRISTIE LYNN BROWN
Iowa City
"And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make." (The Beatles)
On Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, Kristie Lynn Brown, 50, formerly of Iowa City, Iowa, and Estancia, N.M., joined the angels after a long courageous battle with leukemia.
Kristie was born in Iowa City to Delmar and Clista (Susie) Brown on Sept. 19, 1967.
As the youngest of three daughters, Kristie's love of books and reading created many exciting adventures in her life. After she graduated from Iowa City High School in 1986, she attended the University of Iowa and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor's degree in liberal arts in 1990.
In 1992, she ventured off to California to begin a career in movie production. Her accolades include the movies, "True Lies" and "The Fugitive," to name a few.
In 1994, her desire for a new journey brought her and her oldest sister, Kelly, to Albuquerque, N.M., where she met her beloved husband, Donald Cole. They were married at Paradise Valley in Idaho on Aug. 6, 2000.
As a fiber artist, Kristie loved to create intricate patterns and colorful fabrics, which expressed her amazing and beautiful soul.
The foothills of the Manzano Mountains between Spanish land-grant settlements were the perfect home for Kristie and Don, where they could raise their animals and enjoy long walks on their land.
Kristie will be lovingly remembered as a kind, brilliant soul, whose generosity and love for all shone brightly in everything she did. She will be forever in the hearts of her husband, Don; her parents, Delmar and Susie; her sisters, Kelly Brown (Kevin) and Wendy Brown-Haddock (Philip); her two stepsons, Nathan and Evan; her nephews, Cooper Booth (Vicki) and Matthew Haddock (Keri); her niece, Kathryn Haddock; as well as great-nieces, Addison, Kennedy, Kami and Averi.
Kristie was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; her dog, Rascal; and other adopted, beloved pets, as well as a few uncles, aunts and cousins.
A celebration of Kristie's glorious life will be held Friday, Sept. 29, with a visitation at 11 a.m. and service following at noon at Congregational United Church of Christ in Iowa City.
Kristie would have preferred that in lieu of flowers, you donate funds, time or effort to the organization of your choice that would help make the world a better place. If you would prefer, you can send a check to the Kristie Brown Memorial Fund (c/o Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, P.O. Box 167, Iowa City, IA 52244) and we will distribute the funds to charitable organizations we believe she would support.
