Kretschmar, Richard Floyd
Richard Floyd Kretschmar, 93, of Hiawatha, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, in his home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Cedar Memorial's certified celebrant, Julie Freese will be officiating. A visitation is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Richard was born Sept. 6, 1918, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of John and Louise (Conrad) Kretschmar. He graduated in 1937 from Roosevelt High School and proudly served in the Navy Air Corps during World War II.
Richard very much enjoyed fishing. He also looked forward to his lunches at the Elks Lodge and American Legion where he would spend time talking with friends. Richard was a fireman in Cedar Rapids for nearly 35 years (from 1942 to 1977).
Richard was survived by three nieces, Penny, Pam and Patrice; and one nephew, John.
He was preceded in death his parents; daughter, Sharon; grandson, Rick; and sister, Evelyn.
Memorial donations may be given in Richard's name to the Cedar Rapids Fire Department Honor Guard at 1010 First St. NW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52405.
