Kremer, Edward F.
Edward F. Kremer, 88, of 708 Sixth Ave. SW, Cascade, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at 1:40 a.m. at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade. Friends and relatives of Ed may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Services for Ed will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, with full military honors afforded by the Cascade American Legion Post #528.
Ed was born Oct. 13, 1924, in Cascade, Iowa, son of Frank and Katherine (Streng) Kremer. He was a graduate of the former St. Mary's High School in Cascade. On July 18, 1970, he was united in marriage to Dorothy G. (Loeffelholz) Gile at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cascade. He was employed at the Cascade Municipal Utilities until his retirement in 1990.
He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Post #528, for which he served as past commander. He was also a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade.
Ed was an avid Cubs fan. He truly loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Kremer of Cascade; seven children, Kay (Doug) Hunt of Cascade, John (Helen) Gile of Dubuque, Patricia (Kevin) Frommelt of Saint Michael, Minn., David (Julie) Gile of Norfolk, Neb., Pete Gile of Cascade, Sandra (David) Bisenius of Dubuque and Randy (Deb) Gile of Wyoming, Iowa; 24 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl (Marion) Kremer of Cascade; a sister, Mary Jane Clarke of Cascade; and sister and brothers-in-law, Edith Vickers of Darlington, Wis., Mariann (Ed) Welsh of Janesville, Wis., Janet McCabe of Cuba City, Wis. and Jack (Joann) Loeffelholz of Hazel Green, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jerome Kremer; a sister, Dola Potter; a sister-in-law, Midge Kremer; and two brothers-in-law, Willard Potter and Pat Clarke.
