Kray, Ruth E.
Ruth E. Kray, 93, of Newhall, formerly of Garrison, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at Heritage Nursing & Rehab in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Garrison United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lanette Sue Van officiating. Interment will be held at the Garrison Cemetery. Friends may call at Phillips Family Center, 605 Second Ave., Vinton, from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Ruth was born Oct. 26, 1918, in LeRoy, Minn., to Everett and Wilhelmina (McWhirter) Roberts. On May 2, 1947, she was united in marriage to Russell E. Kray at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Ruth attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and taught country school in Reinbeck and the 2nd grade in Shellsburg before her marriage.
She was a 4-H leader and taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years. She was a member and past president of the Garrison Library Board and loved reading and doing crossword puzzles in her spare time.
She is survived by two sons, James (Anita) Kray of Boyden and David (Gloria) Kray of Newhall; her daughter, Janet Baburek of Cedar Rapids; her daughter-in-law, Lois Kray of Vinton; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; eight great-great-grandchildren; her twin brother, Russell Roberts of Reinbeck; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; son, William “Bill” Kray; her grandsons, Lorenz Andresen Jr. and Jason Kray; her great-granddaughter, Brittany Geiger; four brothers and four sisters.
A memorial fund has been established.
