Kramer, Vernon G.
Vernon G. Kramer, 74, of Naples, Fla., and formerly of Dyersville, died Friday, August 14, 2009 at his home in Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Phil Kruse will officiate.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 4 p.m.
Vernon was born on October 3, 1934 in Sand Springs, the son of Louis and Coletta (Evers) Kramer. He married Beulah C. Scheckel on Oct. 22, 1955 in Springbrook. They lived in Dyersville until 1990 and retired to Naples, Fla.
Vernon had a true passion for flying. He was a private pilot and spent many years at the Dyersville Airport. Vernon was also one of the top Jet Engine RC Modelers in the United States. He and his son Larry have won over 50 major awards for their flying and building skills.
Vernon is a retiree of John Deere for 34 years.
Surviving are his wife, Beulah (Scheckel) Kramer, of Naples; seven children: Dennis (Jan) Kramer, of Dyersville, Terry (Sandi) Kramer, of Naples, Tommy Kramer, of Brevard, N.C., Randy (Brenda) Kramer, of Guttenberg, Sheila Kramer, of New York, N.Y., Larry Kramer, of Naples and Diane Sokolowski (Dan) of Lincoln, Neb.; five grandchildren: Ryan Kramer, Joe Kramer, Shelley (friend Carl Blake) Kramer, Brian Kramer, Mitchell Kramer, two great grandchildren: Gabriella and William. He is also survived by five brothers: Marvin (Jean) Kramer of Farley, Bernard (Mary) Kramer of Meza, Ariz., Ronald (Joan) Kramer of Epworth, Dan Kramer of Dyersville, David (Lisa) Kramer of Dyersville; one sister, Margie (Jim) Grawe of Marion; brother-in-law, Dan (Mary Ann) Otting of Waukon; sisters-in-law, Anita (Vincent) Schmidt, Nora (Joe) Conner of Oakland, Calif., 44 nieces & nephews, 41 great nieces & nephews and one great, great niece.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Otting; mother, Coletta Kramer; and father, Louis Kramer; mother-in-law, Leona Scheckel and father-in-law, Matt Scheckel and brother-in-law, Myrl Scheckel.
The family wishes to thank all their friends and family in Dyersville and in the RC Modeling community for all of their care and support through their Father's illness.
Memorials may be given to Beckman High School.
