Kovell Jr., Hebert 'Steve'
Hebert “Steve” Kovell Jr., 72, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with visitation from 9 a.m. until service time. Military honors by Marion American Legion Post 298.
Survivors include his partner, Trudy Foster; daughter, Linda Morgan, and her children; stepdaughter, Sharon (Tom) Malloy; brother, Randy Kovell; and sister, Christy Kovell.
Steve was born Nov. 14, 1939, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the son of Hebert Stephen and Ruby Cathryn (Welch) Kovell Sr. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. Steve was a chef for over 35 years and also managed many apartments. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW.
He loved to gamble and have drinks with his friends at Gilligan's.
Steve will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Terri Freel.
