Kosek, Paul Vernon
Paul Vernon Kosek, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Aug. 2, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m., all at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Interment will follow at Czech National Cemetery.
He was born in Fremont, Neb., to Frank and Rose (Pavlicek) Kosek on March 29, 1931. The family then moved to Omaha, where his father managed Woolworth Stores. After the war the family returned to Cedar Rapids, where they opened Kosek's Dime and Dollar Store in the Czech Village.
Paul graduated from Wilson High School and Coe College. He then taught money and banking at the University of Iowa. He met and married one of his students, Carol Zadnichek, in 1955. They spent two years in Texas, where Paul was the finance officer at the Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas. Paul earned his CPA after returning to Cedar Rapids and operated Kosek's Store for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; and his son, Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his son, James.
He loved all his dogs and they all loved him. Paul was a good man.
