Kosek, Carol Ann
Carol Ann Kosek, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, with visitation at 10 a.m., at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Interment will follow at Czech National Cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Thomas Kosek of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Kosek; and her husband, Paul Kosek.
Carol Kosek was born Oct. 12, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Jennie (Agnew) Zadnichek. Carol attended Mount Mercy Junior College and graduated in 1952 with an Associate degree in Arts. She then furthered her education at the State University of Iowa, where she earned her bachelors in Applied Science and Commerce with highest distinction in 1952. While attending the university, she met and married one of her teachers, Paul Kosek in 1955. hey spent two years in Texas where Paul was the finance officer at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas. Following, the family returned to Cedar Rapids where they opened Kosek's Dime and Dollar Store in the Czech Village. Carol worked for many businesses in Cedar Rapids, including Rockwell Collins.
Carol was an avid member in the community and the clubs she attended were very dear to her heart. She was a member of the bridge club, garden club, book club and writing group, where Carol wrote many inspiring poems. Carol was an active member of All Saints Catholic Church. Carol and Paul loved all animals especially their dog, Rosie. Carol will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
