Korovilas, Kyriakos 'Kulis'
Kyriakos “Kulis” Korovilas, 66, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Visitation: Sunday, July 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Trisagion prayers at 7 p.m., followed by refreshments.Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Monday, July 23, at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Veneta; his mother, Dimitra Korovilas of Greece; his sons, Pantelis Korovilas of London, England and Gregory (Erica) Korovilas of Chicago; two granddaughters, Olivia and Sophia; a brother, Anastasios (Dimitra) Korovilas of Davenport; sister-in-law, Elpiniki “Nikki” Halkidis of Springhill, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Pantelis Korovilas; sister, Noula Spanos; and brother, Dan Korovilas.
Kulis was born in Filiatra, Greece in 1945. He came to the United States in 1970 and became a successful business owner, owning and operating many successful restaurants, including J.D. Steakhouse on First Avenue and the Parthenon in Lindale Mall. On Dec. r 16, 1973, Kulis married Veneta Benetopoulou in Athens, Greece. He was a supervisor with Randstad at the General Mills Plant.
Kulis was a huge sports fan and enjoyed his two favorite teams, the Hawkeyes and the Greek team, Panathinaikos, where he formerly played soccer.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church.
Kulis will be greatly missed by family and friends. May his memory be eternal.
