Koopman, James L.
James L. Koopman, 74, of Marion, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Services: 2 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Carolyn; two sisters, Judith Cope of Cedar Rapids and JoAnne (Merlyn) Schanbacher of Newhall; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann (Don) Sedrel, and brother-in-law, Fred (Kathy) Petersen, both of Cedar Rapids; and his loving little white poodle, Muffin.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jim was born July 20, 1939, in Vinton, the son of Meril and Agnes Senne Koopman. He graduated from Newhall High School in 1957 and from Valparaiso Technical School in 1965.
Jim married Carolyn W. Petersen on Nov. 18, 1978, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He was a computer technician and worked for G.E., Honeywell and later Bull H.N., retiring after more than 33 years of service.
Jim was a member of the Nazarene Church. He enjoyed hiking the Grand Canyon, traveling, bird watching, cars and especially the time spent with his beloved family and many friends.
His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations may be given to the American Heart Association in Jim's name.
