Kohls, Charles William 'Charlie'
Charles William “Charlie” Kohls, 71, of Clermont, died Saturday, May 28, 2011. Charlie was born Jan. 30, 1940, in rural Elgin, Iowa, to Elmer and Viola (Schweinefus) Kohls. He graduated from Clermont High School with the class of 1957. Following high school, Charlie served in the United States Army in Europe and was honorably discharged.
In his younger years, Charlie enjoyed farming and raising his family. He started milking cows and later raised pigs with his son, Danny. Charlie then retired from farming and went on to selling seed corn for Pioneer. Charlie liked spending time with the local farmers and truly enjoyed his Pioneer family. He loved spending time with his family and will be deeply missed by the many people who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Regan Kohls of Clermont; five children, Danny Kohls (special friend, Brenda) of Prairie du Chien, Wis., Heidi (Mike) Dickman of McGregor, Diane (Mike) Baker of Elgin, Shelly (Mitch) Espinosa of Chanhassen, Minn., and Suzette (Alan) Cunningham of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; two brothers, Kenneth (Karen) Kohls of Clermont, and Lawrence (Shirley) Kohls of Clermont; 12 grandchildren, Blake, Ashley, Chelsi, Samantha, Spencer, Austin, Logan, Hanna, Colin, Kara, Claire and Molly; and one great-grandchild, Cale.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Viola Kohls; and his wife, Connie Kohls on Jan. 16, 2010.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 2, at West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Wadena, with military rites. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Schutte - Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Clermont, and one hour before services Thursday at the church.
