Kohl, Dennis
Dennis Kohl, 65, of Solon, died Friday, May 14, 2010, in his home. Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial: Parnell Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; children, Rebecca (Chuck) Culley and Jeffrey (Diane) Kohl of Solon; four grandchildren, Teri (Ryan) Montz, Dawn Culley, Jesi Culley and Tyler Kohl; great-grandchild, Aiden Montz; and a brother, Robert (Deborah) Kohl of Williamsburg, Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dennis was born June 29, 1944, the son of John and Bernice (Wombacher) Kohl, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A 1962 graduate of Jefferson High School, he attended the University of Iowa on a track scholarship. He graduated from Northwest Missouri State in Maryville and later attained his masters from the University of Iowa in curriculum education. On Sept. 7, 1963, he was united in marriage to Nancy Dunn in Cedar Rapids. Dennis was a teacher and coached multiple sports for 33 years in the Cedar Rapids Community School District and three years at LaSalle.
Dennis was a member of the University of Iowa Varsity Club. An avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan, he also enjoyed auto racing, woodworking and traveling.
