Koeneke, Alvin L. 'Bud'
Alvin L. “Bud” Koeneke, 90, of Manchester, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, by Pastor Paddy Druhl. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. before the services Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial, with military honors: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Bud was born July 19, 1922, at home in Colesburg, the son of Leslie A. and Agnes A. (Nebel) Koeneke. He graduated from Colesburg High School and attended Upper Iowa University. He was drafted in the U.S. Army on Dec. 8, 1942, and served in the 14th Armored Division during World War II, earning a Purple Heart. Bud married Alita Reisburg on April 8, 1963, in Chicago.
Bud managed the American Legion Post 45 for 24 years. He was a 65-year member of the American Legion and past commander. Bud was well known as a great hitter while playing baseball for many years while playing for the Dyersville White Hawks. He loved baseball and possessed much knowledge about the history of the game and was a loyal Dodger fan. Bud also enjoyed crossword puzzles, and loved to sing.
Bud is survived by his wife, Alita; and a son, Kevin Koeneke of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Paula Lea Koeneke on April 26, 1998; a sister, Janet (Harlen) Rohwedder; and a brother, Carrol (Dorothy) Koeneke.
A memorial fund has been established in Bud's memory.
