Koehn, Zoe 'Kathleen' Beatty
Zoe “Kathleen” Beatty Koehn, 88, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Atkins, by the Rev. Douglas Woltemath. Burial will be at St. Stephens Cemetery, rural Atkins, following the service. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton.
Born March 4, 1923, on a farm in Benton County, south of Atkins, Kathleen was the daughter of Kirk and Catherine Benesh Beatty. She graduated from Atkins High School and married Merlon Koehn of Atkins on July 1, 1943, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins. She and her husband owned and operated Koehn Hardware in Atkins, until their retirement in 1978. Kathleen loved to quilt and crochet and her life centered around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Atkins.
Kathleen is survived by her two sons, James Koehn and Robert Koehn and his wife, Kathy, all of Atkins; two daughters, Janice Reames and husband Gerald of Atkins, and Donna Manfull and husband Sidney of Washington, Iowa: 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000, her parents and her brother, Keith Beatty.
A memorial fund has been established.
Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
