Knoebel, Walter Otto
Walter Otto Knoebel, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013. Graveside services: 1 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Kris Lesmeister will officiate. A visitation will be Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie; his children, Ken Knoebel, Tina Marie (Andy) Otero and Diana Lesmeister, all of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, David Beltz, Tricia Tendick, Kris Lesmeister, Justin Lesmeister and Brandi Paxton; and his great-grandchildren, Nathan Tendick, Kenny Tendick, Miranda Tendick, Danielle Beltz and David Wayne Jr. Beltz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward Knoebel; and a son-in-law, Michael Lesmeister.
Walter was born Jan. 30, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Walter and Jessie (Maish) Knoebel. He married Lillie D. Jensen on Aug. 9, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. Walter worked for Takin Brothers Trucking and later he started with the United States Postal Service, Cedar Rapids, in 1965, retiring in 1985. After retiring he was secretary-treasurer of Rapid Area Union.
He enjoyed playing golf, photography, riding horses, playing chess and antique cars.
Walter served in the Army during World War II.
A memorial fund has been established for the family.
