Knebel, Leo H.
Leo H. Knebel, 87, Hills oldest lifelong resident, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 1, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hills, with the Rev. William Kneemiller and the Rev. Jason Crossen officiating. Burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery near Hills. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the church.
Leo Hubert Knebel was born May 31, 1924, in Hills, the son of George and Martha (Edle) Knebel. He attended St. Joseph's School there in Hills and has spent a lifetime in farming and carpentry work.
Leo loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, caring for his gardens, but he was also one who enjoyed a good game of cards with family and friends. He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and had been a member of the Hills Volunteer Fire Department.
His family includes three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Knebel of Riverside and Vivian and Marilyn Knebel, both of Hills; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Leah Herring; and brothers, Rochus, Reno, Henry and Louis Knebel.
