Knapp, David Edward
David Edward Knapp, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Manor Care Nursing and Rehab Center. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Noelridge Christian Church by the Rev. James Cotton. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Jerry Knapp of Cedar Rapids; a son, Darrell Knapp and wife Nancy of Kansas City, Kan.; stepson, Scott DeWitt and wife Dawn of Cedar Rapids; stepdaughters, Karen Borseth of Cedar Rapids and Elizabeth and husband Paul Mahurin of Marion; four grandchildren, Randi, Jacquelyn, Nicole and Rachel; and one great-grandchild, Wyatt.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn in 2008.
David was born Sept. 18, 1925, in Emporia, Kan., to William and Ruth Knapp. He married Doris White on Dec. 19, 1947, in Canton, Mo. She died in 1966. He later married Maryanna Dickenson on April 6, 1991, in Cedar Rapids. She died in 1995. He later married Jerry DeWitt on Oct. 23, 2003, in Tucson, Ariz. David served our country in World War II and received a Purple Heart in the line of duty. After World War II, David continued serving his country as criminal investigator for the IRS, retiring in 1975. He then formed Knapp Tax Services and continued that business through about 2005.
David was a member of Noelridge Christian Church, VFW Post 788 and Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed watching sports on TV and playing cards with friends and family.
