Bessie C. (Mitchell) Bassett Klopp, 98, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at Evergreen Estates II, Cedar Rapids. Memorial Services: noon Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. The family will greet friends one hour before the service. Private Burial: Springville Cemetery, Springville, Iowa.
Survivors include a daughter, Marjorie (Roger) Lacock of Racine, Wis.; a son, Thomas (Sharon) Bassett of Cedar Rapids; stepdaughter, Nancy Strand of Marion; daughter-in-law, Lois Bassett of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; and several great and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a son, Allen G. Bassett, who died Nov. 21, 1987; twin grandsons; and a brother, Maurice Mitchell.
Bessie was born Dec. 31, 1911, the daughter of Curtis and Nettie (Sheets) Mitchell, near Springville, Iowa. She graduated from Springville High School in 1929, and attended business college in Cedar Rapids. Bessie married Glenn Bassett on June 12, 1931. He died Nov. 11, 1951. She later married Lloyd Klopp on July 1, 1961. He died June 7, 1980. Bessie worked at LeFebure Printing Company for 20 years, retiring in 1970. She was a member of Hope United Church of Christ in Hiawatha and was a former member of the Marion American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 298.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bessie's memory.
