Klein, Oliver W.
Oliver W. Klein, 81, of 1115 A Ave., Marion, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. William Harnish officiating. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and at the chapel after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Survivors include his wife, Violet; six children, Julie (Roger) Sumner of Batavia, Ill., Laurie (Terry) Lynch of Marion, Larry (Patty) Klein of Palm Coast, Fla., Kim (Mark) Gard of Norwalk, Iowa, David (Dar) Klein of Marion and Nancy (Kelly) Hoagland of West Des Moines; two stepchildren, Jeff Ness of Minnesota and Rick (Cindy) Ness of Marion; a sister, Evelyn (Don) Wilkinson of Cedar Rapids; brothers, William and James, both of Cedar Rapids, and Robert of Kansas; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Klein; and his parents, James Klein and Ruby Grapes.
Oliver was born April 4, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was employed at the Cedar Rapids Gazette for over 25 years. He married Mary C. Powers on June 18, 1950. She died in 1995. He married Violet Ness on Sept. 23, 2000. He was a volunteer at Aging Services for seven years. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and was an avid Cubs fan.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
