Klein, Dolores Ann
Dolores Ann Klein, 86, of Maquoketa, died Sunday evening, Sept. 26, 2010, at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa, with the Rev. James Chappell and Deacon Bob Head officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa, where the Catholic Daughters of America will recite a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation also will be held on Saturday one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa.
Dolores Ann Zugenbuehler was born Jan. 30, 1924, in Dubuque to George and Martha (Hall) Zugenbuehler. She graduated from Senior High School in 1941, and married Sylvester Klein on August 14, 1948, at St. Raphael's Cathedral in Dubuque. He preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1995.
She was employed for 25 years at Clinton Engines Corp., retiring in 1980.
Dolores was a member of Sacred Heart Church and its adult choir and a very active community volunteer, including past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, past regent of the Catholic Daughters of America, American Red Cross blood drive coordinator, Jackson County Hospital Auxiliary, Clinton Engines Historical Association, Jackson County Historical Society, Meals on Wheels, Jackson County Volunteers, Senior Citizen's Center, Community Service Store, Hurstville Interpretive Center and Red Hat Ladies. She also volunteered at area care centers and was an election poll tender.
Survivors include her children, Robert (Debra) Klein of Edina, Minn., Pam (Robert) Schmidt of Dubuque, and Kathy Klein of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Lindsay (Mark) Penick and daughter Alliyah of Richfield, Minn., Neal (Sarah) Klein and son Jack of Chanhassen, Minn., Lauren Klein (fiance Mark Schultis) of Dallas, Texas, Teresa Schmidt of Chicago, Peter Schmidt of Dubuque, and Mike Jenn of Hills; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Zugenbuehler of Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, James at birth; a brother, George Zugenbuehler; two sisters, Mary Maus and Margaret Foote; and brothers-in-law, Harold Maus, Bob Freeman and Ray Foote.
