Klaren, Daniel J. 'Bucko'
Daniel J. “Bucko” Klaren, 54, of Dyersville. died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Dyersville, with his family at his side. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where the Dyersville Fire Department will gather at 6 p.m., followed by any other departments that desire to attend as a group. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.
Dan was born Dec. 3, 1956, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Urban and Frances (Stelken) Klaren. He graduated from Beckman High School with the class of 1975 and went on to NICC at Calmar for tractor repair. Dan worked for several implement dealerships in the area. On Oct. 22, 1983, he married Joan Olberding at St. Francis Xavier Basilica.
For the past 17 years he has been employed at Hodge Material Handling in Dubuque, where he currently served as the service manager. He joined the Dyersville Volunteer Fire Department in 1990, and began his training. He became very involved with the department and fire service in general. He held several offices within the department and was currently the training officer and captain. Dan was a Certified Level II Fire Instructor and taught many classes throughout the state and especially in Northeastern Iowa.
As an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, he was a member of the Dyersville Sportsman Club. He also enjoyed golfing and biking. In whatever spare time he had, he enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; two sons, Nick of Cedar Rapids, and Bill of Iowa City; his mother, Frances Klaren of Dyersville; his brother, Tom (Kay) Klaren of Dyersville; a nephew, Brian Klaren of North Liberty; a niece, Rachel Klaren of Iowa City; his father and mother-in-law, Delbert and Marjorie Olberding of Dyersville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel F. Olberding, Gary (Dawn) Olberding, Ann (Mike) Link and Dave Olberding, all of Dyersville, Becky (Rick) Serovy of Cedar Rapids; and nieces and nephews, Robbie and Molly Olberding and Brandon and Bryce Serovy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Urban Klaren.
A Daniel Klaren Memorial Fund has been established and memorials are preferred.
