Kirsten Thams Roulund
Cedar Rapids
Kirsten Thams Roulund passed away on the morning of Sunday, February 11th at the age of 87 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was born on February 7, 1937 in Copenhagen, Denmark, and immigrated to the U.S. in the early 50’s via boat, where she lived briefly in New York City, before establishing roots in California. In the late 90’s, she moved to Iowa so that she could care for her older sister, Alice.
Kirsten was a wonderful loving mother and friend, who built lifelong relationships everywhere she went. Known for her elaborate smorgasbords and unmatched hospitality, she was well-loved among the community in both Iowa and Southern California.
She cherished long chats with her family and friends, and was an avid baker and fabulous cook. Kirsten loved painting, embroidery, knitting and traveling. She greatly enjoyed caring for her kitties, spending time with her close friends, and playing with her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Poul Bent Roulund; sister, Alice Gorsch; and brother, Torben Thams. She is survived by her four children: Paul Roulund, Suzanne Roulund, Lars Roulund, Eric Roulund, and honorary son Nick Dixon; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and numerous extended family and friends.
The memorial service will be private with only close family members present. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local animal shelter to commemorate Kirsten’s deep love for animals.
