Kinley, Marilyn
Marilyn Kinley
Marilyn was born to Dr. David and Rose Morrissey in Cedar Rapids on Dec. 14, 1928, and returned to her heavenly father on March 11, 2010. A celebration of her life will be held at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, with visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 15, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Light refreshment vaguely reminiscent of an Irish wake will be available. Funeral Mass will be at St. Mary's Church in Urbana at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Burial at Mount Calvary following.
She is survived by daughters, Susan Heeren, Angie (Steve) Smith, son, David (Janelle) Kurth, and her brother, Leo Morrissey. The joys of her life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Martin Smith, Melani Kurth, Michael Heeren, Marcy (Nathan) Johnson, Josh (Heather) Kurth, Marc Smith, Dakota Kurth and Mariah Kurth.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husbands, Lee Kurth and Joe Kinley; her parents, David and Rose Morrissey; her grandson, Lee Kurth; her sisters, Marna Butz and Janet Hesseltine; and her brother, John Morrissey.
Marilyn moved to Urbana after retiring from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, where she had been manager of housekeeping. A graduate of Briar Cliff College, she taught elementary school for many years at St. Jude's Elementary, Erskine Elementary and North-Linn. Perhaps the job loved most began when she retired. She loved baby-sitting. Some of those children are now college students.
Not one to seek out honors, she was the recipient of a special papal blessing for her devotion to Catholic education. Marilyn was active in Bay View Rosary Society of St. Mary's. She loved playing cards with her friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family plans a memorial to Hospice of Mercy.
