King, Doris Colbert
Doris Colbert King, 95, of Waterloo, formerly of North Liberty, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with burial to follow at the Springfield Cemetery in What Cheer. Visitation will be at one hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations can be made in her memory to either Cedar Valley Hospice or Friendship Village of Waterloo.

Doris Thompson was born Dec. 27, 1917, in Mahaska County, Iowa, the daughter of Ivan and Gladys (Parke) Thompson. She attended schools in Delta, Iowa. In 1934, she married Everett “Pete” Colbert in Monticello, Iowa. Pete died in 1966. She married Cecil King in 1978 in North Liberty. Cecil died in 1986. For many years she worked as a cook at Hospital School and Oakdale through the University of Iowa Hospitals. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Coralville, Madison and Penn Townships Farm Bureau, the Whippoorwills and Sara Hart.
Her family includes her children, Betty (Robert) Hellman of Waterloo and Max (Renee) Colbert of North Liberty; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, Everett Colbert; sisters, Ellen Jones and Mary Louise Thompson; and brothers, Elmer, James and John Thompson.
