Kimett Sickles
KIMETT SICKLES Cedar Rapids Kimett D. Sickles, 59, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, peacefully, at the Iowa City VA Health Care System. Services to celebrate Kimett's life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Survivors include his daughter, Kristine (Toby) Sickles Smith; son, Kori Sickles; his siblings, Lana (Jim) Olmstead, Diane Hudgins, Mark Sickles and Raymond Sickles; his granddaughter, Marlene Sickles; and special friend, Mary Woodard. Kimett was born July 4, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at St. Luke's Hospital, to Beverly and Jim Sickles. He served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam from 1972 to 1976. On April 11, 1982, Kimett married Sharon Smith. For many years, he worked as a machinist at Cedar Rapids Inc., but also worked at Rockwell Collins and JE Adams. He was known for his boisterous laugh and his views on politics. Kimett will be welcomed in heaven by his mother, Beverly Sickles; his father Jim Sickles; his wife, Sharon Sickles; and his sister's life partner, Bruce Hornstein. Memorials can be made in memory of Kimett to Operation Homefront.
