Killian, Lois Lorene
Lois Lorene Killian passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Parkview Manor in Wellman, Iowa.
Lois was born Oct. 29, 1923, in Delta, Iowa, to Guy Rohloff and Neva Rohloff Schultz. She graduated from Delta High School and immediately thereafter worked as a telephone operator for a short time. On May 17, 1942, she married George Wade Killian. They were proud to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary this year. To this union three children were born, Karen Koob (Sioux Falls, SD); Lancey (Linda) of Sigourney; and George Wade (Angie) of McGregor. Grandchildren include Jennifer Larsen, Kristen Carlson, Jill Heinsius, Ann Noska, Mary Lea Forrest, Ginny Lutjen, Trevor Killian, Joel Killian and Lindsay Killian. There are 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Other survivors include brothers, Larry Schultz (Vickie) and Richard Schultz (Martha); and sister Mary Ellen Latona; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her father, Guy Rohloff; her stepfather and mother, William and Neva Schultz; sisters, Helen Jewell and Dorothy Ruck; grandson, Phil Alan Killian and son-in-law, Dr. K. Gene Koob.
Lois was a hardworking farm wife and was active in the Bethel Methodist Church. After retirement, she took great pleasure in entering her hickory nut pies in the annual pie auction for the Keokuk County Hospice. Wade and Lois also enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S., Mexico, and Europe after retirement.
A celebration of life service will be held at Bethel Methodist Church in rural Sigourney at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2, with the Rev. LuAnn Benge officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney.
Donations in Lois's memory may be made to the Keokuk County Hospice.
