Kiley, John F.
John F. Kiley, 93, of Paw Paw and Lawton, Mich., and formerly of Dodgeville, Wis., passed away Friday morning, June 21, 2013, at White Oaks in Lawton.
He was born March 21, 1920, in Dodgeville, Wis., the son of the late Clarence D. and Madella (Limmex) Kiley. John served in the United States Navy during World War II, worked as a locomotive engineer for the Milwaukee Railroad for 44 years, and was promoted to the official position as “Traveling Engineer”, retiring in 1980. After John retired from the Milwaukee Railroad, he wrote railroad stories for a railroad magazines for 25 years about his life as an engineer. John also worked in the public relations office of the Milwaukee Braves baseball team for a number of years. He was well liked by the National League sports writers and broadcasters. John has made many friends since moving to Paw Paw and he will be deeply missed.
On May 21, 1940, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dodgeville, Wis., John was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Beth” D. Goldthorpe who preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 2012. They were married for nearly 72 years. He was also preceded in death by a son, Gregory Kiley in 1997; brothers, James, Phil, and William Kiley; and sisters, Katherine DeNure Kiley, Patricia Olson, and Mary Vukits.
Surviving are a son, Kevin (Janice) Kiley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter, Constance (Kenneth) Clifford of Paw Paw, Mich.; eight grandchildren, John, Jacob, Mary, Jeff, Matt, Jim, Sean, and Lindsey; many great-grandchildren; and sister, Nellie DeLong of New Orleans, La.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Paw Paw, with the Rev. Fr. Joseph Xavier as celebrant. A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, June 25, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dodgeville, Wis. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Dodgeville. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Michigan. Arrangements are by the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw.
