Kibler, George Byron
George Byron Kibler, 91, of Hiawatha Care Center, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at St Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Voels officiating. Visitation will be one hour before beginning at 10 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow the funeral services.
George was born Aug. 22, 1921, in Marengo, Iowa, to George T. Kibler and Frances J. Cronbaugh Kibler. On Dec. 13, 1941, George married Wilma Ida Margretz. They had two sons, George (Pat) and Ronald (Paula Ann). George is also survived by five granddaughters, Kristine (Russ) Morgan, Kimberly (Paul) Hook, Angela (Gordon) Merritt, Melissa (Chris) Mashek and Megan Kibler and friend Jason Cepaitis; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Philip Kibler and friend Cheryl Aitker; two sisters, Phylis Shedenhelm and Elizabeth Stanerson; and many nieces and nephews.
George proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II. He was honorably discharged in December 1944. George was a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.
George retired from Quaker Oats after more than 30 years of devoted service.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother and uncle.
The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care given to George by Hiawatha Care Center and the staff of St. Luke's Hospital 5th floor. A special thanks to Dr. Mary Anne Nelson.
