Kevin Joe Northway, born August 12, 1954, of Springville, IA; passed away on Friday, May 17, peacefully in his sleep at home with family by his side, which was a strong wish of his. Memorial service will be held 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the United Methodist Church: 5050 Rec Drive, Marion, IA. Celebration of Life will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, May 23, at the Indian Creek Country Club in Marion, IA.
Kevin was born in Des Moines, IA to Gilbert & Shirley Northway. The family later moved to Marion, IA when Kevin was in grade school.
He attended Linn Mar High School, class of 1972. While attending Linn Mar he was a star football player and was honored as a member of the 1971 East Central Iowa All Conference Team amongst other high school football honors. He was also crowned Linn Mar homecoming king.
From a young adult he worked at Northway Well and Pump Company which his father started. Kevin had a big hand in building up and maintaining the company as a successful business with his two brothers and nephews.
He had a love for cars, and he purchased a 1968 Plymouth GTX as his first car. He was an avid motor sports fan and go cart racer.
He met his wife of 43 years, Sherrie, and they married in 1981. In 1982 their son Clark was born followed by their daughter Laura in 1984.
He bought a 1910 farmhouse in Springville, IA for his family, which he turned into a beautiful property and maintained an immaculate acreage where they lived for 40 yrs.
He loved to golf and enjoyed golfing with his friends as a member of the Indian Creek Country Club in Marion as well as traveling to various courses around the U.S.
He was a fan of Iowa Hawkeye football and held season tickets for games which he attended with his good friend Bob Burns.
He was a private pilot for 15 years. During that time, he owned three different Cessna planes, and he was very proud of obtaining his instrument rating. He enjoyed flying with his wife to numerous golf courses and taking trips around the U.S.
He enjoyed taking vacations with his family and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.
He was a very involved father who gave his family everything they needed and more.
A special thank-you to his lifetime friend Craig Miller who visited Kevin every week and Steve Springer who always made Kevin the best beef jerky. All his friends were special to him in various ways.
A big thank-you to all the caregivers who helped take care of him over the last seven years.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Gilbert and Shirley Northway. Nephew, Nicholas Northway. Daughter in law, Leanne Northway and niece, Emily Grenis. As well as many aunts and uncles.
Survivors include his wife, Sherrie Northway. His son Clark Northway of Denver CO. His Daughter Laura Northway of Springville IA. His older brother Randy (Carole) Northway of Robins IA. His younger brother Brent (Diane) Northway of Springville IA. Nephews Jason (Carrie) Northway of Denver CO. Spencer (Tiffany) Northway of Cedar Rapids, IA. Colin (Brandi) Northway of Marion Ia. Brother-in-law Rolland Larimer of Urbana, IA. Brother- and sister-in-law Becky (Ted) Grenis of Ely, IA. Nephew Brock (Myleena) Grenis of Ely , IA. Niece Brooke (Josh) Rouse of Mechanicsville, IA. Granddaughters Cecelia Northway of Springville and Alyvia Schuller of Denver, CO.
