Kepler, James K.
James K. Kepler, 58, of Mechanicsville, formerly of Lisbon, died Oct. 19, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Jim's funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Morgan Funeral Choices, Mount Vernon. His viewing and visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. Jim's cremated remains will be scattered at a later date.
Surviving Jim are his children, Eirik of Swisher and Nikki (Mike) Carmer and Travis, both of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Dawn MacMillan of Colona, Ill., and Kandie Owens of Independence; two grandchildren, Kourtney Kepler and Dallas Carmer; significant other, Beverly Lathum of Mechanicsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Jim was born Oct. 2, 1953, in Iowa City, and graduated from Lisbon High School in 1972. He joined Carpenters Union Local 308, Cedar Rapids, until his retirement in 2011. Jim was an EMT and member of the Mechanicsville Fire and Ambulance Volunteers.
Jim loved sports and especially the Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed his computer and Facebook friends, watching TV, playing euchre, and just relaxing. Since retiring, he said every day was Saturday.
Jim will always be known for his one liner humor, “end of story, and see yah next time.”
Following the funeral the Carpenters Union will host a reception for Jim at its union hall, 350 Waconia Dr. SW, Cedar Rapids.
