Kent G. Baker, 78, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at his home in Marion surrounded by his loving wife and family. His celebration of life will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, June 30, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Minburn, Iowa at 4 p.m.
Kent was born on Oct. 6, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Gilbert and Viola (Collins) Baker. He was a 1962 graduate of Central Dallas School and went on to attend Truman University. On Jan. 21, 1973, Kent was united in marriage to Babette B. Barnes in Des Moines. Kent served honorably in the U.S. Air Force for four years. Upon his return, he worked for Hawkeye Security in Des Moines before starting at United Fire Group in Cedar Rapids. Kent was the CFO for United Fire Group when he retired. He loved hunting, fishing, golfing and wood carving. Kent was a wine connoisseur and loved his truck, music and theatre. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Kent is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Babette Baker of Marion; son, Richard W. Baker of Des Moines; daughter, Brandi N. Baker of Georgia; granddaughter, Kacey Baker of Des Moines; and grandsons, Max Baker of Des Moines and Michael Baker of Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Viola; and his sister, Gay.
