Kent, Alice Mary
Alice Mary Kent, 99, of Chelsea, died at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama on Sept. 12, 2013. Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Chelsea United Methodist Church. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine.
Alice was born in Gruver, Iowa, on Oct. 11, 1913, the daughter of Ruth and Charles Clump. She was a graduate of Drake University and a teacher at Williard in the Des Moines Public School System. She was an active member of the University Christian Church and other organizations in Des Moines.
For the past 30 years, Alice and her husband, William Luther Kent, made their home in Chelsea, restoring the Kent family home and creating a beautiful garden center. She was active in Eastern Star and the Chelsea Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William, after 71 years of marriage.
She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Schiffl, and Marcia's children, Juliane and Benjamin; and her son, Conrad Kent, and his wife, Margarita.
