Kenney, Kenneth V.
Kenneth V. Kenney, 80, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at Mercy Hospice from complications of esophageal cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at the Towncrest Church of The Nazarene, 1035 Wade St., Iowa City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.
Ken was born March 14, 1930, in Riverside, Iowa, the son of Frank and Leona (Holderness) Kenney. He attended Riverside schools and later enlisted in the United States Army. On Jan. 14, 1967, Ken was united in marriage to Mary Jeanne Pierce. For over 42 years, Ken worked as a truck mechanic for several different companies in the Iowa City area.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jeanne of Iowa City; a daughter, Sherry English Allen (Steven) of Agency; two sons, William English of Stone City and Bradley English of Iowa City; two sisters, Mildred Flynn of Iowa City and Gertrude (Hubert) Rath of West Des Moines; a sister-in-law, Lorrine Kenney of Burt; six grandchildren, Sarah, Jessica, Bobbie, Andrew, Terrie and Jacob; and 13 great-grandchildren. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dorothy; and a brother, Lester.
