Kenneth A. Volz Sr., 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Friday at Teahen Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday after 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 60 years, Catherine; son, John (Ellen) Volz; daughters, Karen Volz (Lance Heeren), Sharon Volz, Mary (Michael) Hansen and Ann Volz, all of Cedar Rapids, and Sara (Rob) Keller of Dubuque; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jon O. Volz of Cedar Rapids; sister, Molly B. McMullen of Cedar Rapids; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Jr.; stepfather, Richard McMullen; stepmother, Vera Volz; and sister, LeAnn Homan.
Kenneth was born June 27, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Kenneth and Emma Mrstyk Volz. He attended McKinley High School and was a veteran of the Marine Corps. On Oct. 26, 1957, he married Catherine Holtz at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids. In 1989, he retired as a supervisor after 30 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.
Kenneth was a dedicated, loving father, who enjoyed spending time collecting coins, fishing and being with his family. He was the family dispatcher and always was there ready to respond when someone needed help.
Kenneth will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
