KENNETH SCHWAB
Belle Plaine
Kenneth Schwab, 68, of Belle Plaine, passed away Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, at his home with family by his side.
Kenneth, son of Kathryn Herman, was born July 28, 1948. Following graduation from Belle Plaine, he married Veronica "Bonnie" Richardson. Together they raised their three children in Moline, Ill. The family later moved to Fort Morgan, Colo., for five years. In 1992, they moved back to Belle Plaine, where Ken owned and operated the Lincoln Cafe for 10 years, until he went to work at the University of Iowa. He retired from the university July 1, 2015.
Ken enjoyed golfing and fishing. He was a fan of the Royals and Hawkeyes. Making sure to keep up with family and friends, he always had his cellphone and laptop by his side. But most of all, he loved being with his grandkids.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Veronica of Belle Plaine; children, Craig Schwab of North English, Mary (Scott) Anderegg of Sussex, Wis., and Shelly (Brant) Whittle of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Drake, Kelsey and Kendra Whittle and Hanna and Madison Anderegg; siblings, Donna (Mike) Owens of Lawson, Mo., Dave (Mary) Dixon of Iowa City, Raymond (Bonnie) Schwab of Sherrard, Ill., and Berta (Charlie) Garrett of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; nieces and nephews, growing especially close to Kris (Aaron) Fralich of Greenfield, Ind.; dog, Sophie; and many more loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and two brothers, Butch Schwab and Bobby Rush.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine, with Don Drahos officiating. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Belle Plaine Ambulance Service or University of Iowa Oncology Clinic. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.hrabakfuneralhome.com.
