Kenneth Eugene was born at home Feb. 26, 1938, in Deep River, the son of Henry J. and Alma F. (Fruendt) Meyer. Ken attended St. John’s Lutheran Grade School. He graduated from Deep River High School in 1956. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army from 1957-59, stationed in Germany. Upon his return, he married Elaine Teslow on May 21, 1960, at the Glenwood Lutheran Church out in the country on Old Stage Road, Decorah.
Ken worked at Amana Refrigeration briefly, and then Wilson Foods/Farmstead from 1960-90. He then worked as plant manager at City Carton Recycling in Cedar Rapids, until his retirement in 2003. Ken spent his free time garden tilling, fixing TV's, doing electrical wiring, cutting wood, hitting golf balls and vacationing with his family. He participated in and watched sports all his life. He loved the Hawkeyes. Ken was a member of Trinity Lutheran for 62 years where he was an usher and sang with the Men’s Choir for 20 years.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his photographic memory of every mile marker between here and Colorado. He was a great provider and a hard worker, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ken is survived by his wife, Elaine, of 62 years; children, Pam (Dan) Pruett of Longmont, Colo., David Meyer of Hiawatha, Jon (Kelly Glick) Meyer of Loveland, Colo., and Alicia (Davin)Helden of Berthoud, Colo.; grandchildren, Willie Pruett and Emma (Jake) Pruett, Greta Pruett, Soren Meyer, Mia Helden and Logan Helden; brothers, Wayne (MaryAnne) Meyer and Donald (Judy) Meyer; and many nieces and nephews.
