Kenneth "Kenny" Leaven, 76, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 7, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, with the Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery, near Newhall. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the church in Newhall.
A memorial fund has been established.
Kenneth John Leaven was born July 21, 1937, at Walker, Iowa, to Lawrence and Rozena (Zieser) Leaven. On Nov. 26, 1989, he was united in marriage to Janice "Jan" Louise Maas at Norway, Iowa. Kenny and Jan retired and moved to Moravia, Iowa, where they enjoyed fishing and boating for several years. Kenny also enjoyed many good friendships at the Landing in Moravia.
Prior to his retirement, he owned and operated Kenny's Transfer and Storage. In his leisure, he enjoyed deer hunting, mowing his lawn and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Chris (Mark) Lorber of Waukee, Kevin (Linda) Leaven of Atkins, Kayla (Chris) Christensen of Atkins, Lisa (Daryl) Wiesender of Cedar Rapids, Kandi (Carlos) Perez of Minneapolis, Minn., and Chris (Theresa) Seboldt of Ladora; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers; and three sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jan; his son, Kerry; and his stepson, Jason Seboldt.
