Kenneth L. Horak, 66, of Andover, Minn., formerly of Coggon, Iowa, was born Dec. 17, 1950, and passed away peacefully on Oct. 23, 2017, at his home after a battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Norma Horak of Coggon; a sister at birth, Betty Jane; and a nephew, John Walderbach Jr. of Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Beth Horak (nee Henderson) of Andover, Minn.; sons, Roger (Heidi) of Buffalo, Minn., and Daryl (Laurie) of Vadnais Heights, Minn.; granddaughters, Becky (18) and Katie (15); brother, Larry of Marion; and sister, Janet (John "Louie") of Ely.
He graduated in 1969 from North Linn High School, where he played football and baseball. He and Beth married Aug. 29, 1970, and they recently celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary. He worked for most of his career as a boilermaker. Ken enjoyed years of winter vacations in Mexico and the Caribbean (Jamaica was his favorite), a couple European vacations, an Alaskan cruise and many fishing trips, including Canada. This past summer, Ken, along with his wife and sons, fulfilled a lifelong-desired Alaskan adventure. He traveled all over the United States, but most relaxing weekends were spent at the cabin in Wisconsin, where he did much of his hunting and golfing.
A visitation will be Monday, Oct. 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Thurston-DeShaw Funeral Home, 13817 Jay St. NW, Andover, Minn. Funeral services will be private for the family. There also will be a memorial reception in his hometown of Coggon at Historical Hall, 123 E. Main St., on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 4 to 6 p.m.
