Kenneth Hartung
KENNETH L. HARTUNG
Marion
Kenneth L. Hartung died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, at Avow Hospice in Naples, Fla., following a fall during evacuation from Hurricane Irma.
Born in Junction City, Kan., Ken was a proud Kansas State graduate and Air Force captain from 1951 to 1958, playing football both at home and abroad.
He lived in Oelwein before moving to Marion, where he worked for King Castle. Ken lived in Marion and Cedar Rapids from 1968 to 1994. He was senior vice president and board member of Diamond V Mills. He
was one of the founders of Linnhaven in Marion, a home for special-needs adults.
He also was a member of Rotary International, Indian Creek Golf and Country Club, Marion Noon Lions and Marion Christian Church. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and, in 1972, president of Marion Chamber of Commerce.
Wherever he lived, he loved golf, bridge and watching all the football games on TV. His cheerful strength, grit and kindness were known to all.
He will be remembered with love by his wife, Lisa Grieve Hartung; his five children, Terri Wade (Marty), Vicki Sindelar (Dan), Steve (Becky), Dan (Sue) and Tom (Tricia) Hartung; stepsons, Jim (Lisa) and David (Diane) Grieve; brothers, Jerry (Helen) and Dale (Jean); dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Filled with faithful love for his family, he embraced the spouses as though they were his own children.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Wilma, in 1989; and an infant grandson.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 27, at First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs, Fla.
In memory of Ken's great generosity, please follow his legacy by directing memorials to a charity of your choice.
