KENNETH "DEE" ROTH
Belle Plaine
Kenneth "Dee" Roth,
73, of Belle Plaine, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2015, at the Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 16, at St. Michael's Catholic Church by Deacon Joe Behounek. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Hrabak Funeral Home.
Kenneth was born Sept. 6, 1941, near Hartwick, to Ferdinand and Gertrude Dee Roth. He attended school in Hartwick and graduated from the last class ever for Hartwick High School in May 1960. He then attended Universal Trade School in Omaha studying refrigeration and air conditioning services. He worked in Moline, Ill., Marion, Amana and Belle Plaine. In 1972, he started his own business "Roth Appliance" in Belle Plaine. In 1982, he took on TV sales and service and the business became Roth W & Appliance, which he operated until his health forced him to retire in 1998. He loved and was very proud of his work.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church where he served on the parish council and finance committee. He was a member of the St Michael's Church Knights of Columbus. Kenneth was a member of the Belle Plaine Chamber of Commerce. He was a 35 year member of RSES (Refrigeration Service Engineers Society) where he held several offices, including president.
On May 31, 1963, Kenneth married LaDonna Fisher at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn. They lived in Blairstown and Hartwick for a short time. They moved into their present home in Belle Plaine in May 1966.
He is survived by his wife, LaDonna; sons, Wade (Suzy) and Neal (Anna); and his pride and joy five grandchildren, Jerome Mathis, Jarid Kalinay, Waylon Roth, Payton Roth and Jordan Roth. Great-grandchildren are Owen Mathis and Cole Mathis.
He is also survived by his sisters, Kathryn Ostrom, Shirley Bloome and Maxine (Cecil) Roberts; sister-in-law, Betty Roth; and his brothers-in-law, Dale (JoAnn) Fisher and Kenneth Bevins.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Lori Roth; brothers, Edward and Wallace; sisters, Elmira Bevins and Vivian Himschoot; and several nieces and nephews.
Kenneth enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, especially with lifelong friend Doug McDonald, from Cedar Rapids, who passed away earlier. Their health just would not let them continue, but there are a lot of great river stories being told again in heaven.
