Kennedy, Mary F.
Mary F. Kennedy, 87, of Iowa City, died Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Crestview Nursing & Rehab Center in West Branch. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Father John Spiegel will officiate. The family will greet friends Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Burial will be Thursday at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family requests memorials to Iowa City Hospice.
Mary was born July 11, 1926, in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Oliver and Alice (Appel) Terry. Growing up and graduating from high school in Muscatine, Mary attended and later graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She married Paul “Tom” Kennedy on June 5, 1948, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. She worked as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City with 44 years of service, retiring from Mercy in 1991.
She and Tom were longtime members of St. Mary's Church.
Survivors include her husband, Tom; sons, Pat Kennedy (Margarita) and Tim Kennedy, both of Iowa City, and Joe Kennedy (Peggy) of Gilbert, Ariz.; daughters, Mary Kathryn Albaugh (Rick) of Gilbert, Ariz., Jane Kennedy of China and Kitty Lake of Iowa City; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Katie Kopp of Florissant, Mo., Mabel Terry of Muscatine and Delores Vance of Rochelle, Ill.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Christine Ramer; a brother, Edwin; and a sister, Marge Terry.
