Kendall, Charlotte L.
Charlotte L. Kendall, 85, of Toledo, went to be with the Lord Saturday, March 19, 2011, after a long illness. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 22, at 11 a.m. at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama, with Pastor John Louk of Salem United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Charlotte was born April 27, 1925, in Charter Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Catherine (Brickman) Christiansen. On Oct. 23, 1943, she was united in marriage to Leo E. Kendall in Mapleton, Iowa. Charlotte was a cook for the Toledo School, and later, a cook at the Toledo Juvenile Home until her retirement.
She loved to travel, fish, knit, crochet, garden and do craft projects. Charlotte was a great cook and loved family gatherings. She was known to frequent a casino from time to time. Charlotte loved her family and was a great grandmother.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Leo, on May 10, 2003; five siblings, Henry and Robert Christiansen, Marylyn (Jim) Wallace, Doris (Francis) Berning and Charles Christiansen; and one grandson, Tim Kendall.
Survivors include three sons, James (Theresa) Kendall and Daniel (Shari) Kendall, both of Cedar Rapids, and Richard (Mary) Kendall of Toledo; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Ron) Willis, Eugenia (Jay) Vavra, Robert Kendall and Rebecca (Jon) Blair; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Ron Christiansen of Castana; three sisters, June Samuelson of Milan, Ill., Edna Jensen of Castana and Carmen Lamb of Onawa; two sisters-in-law, Darlene Christiansen and Sara Christiansen; and many nieces and nephews.
She was a loving wife and mother and she will be greatly missed.
A memorial fund has been established.
