Kelly Laton
Kelly Laton
Hiawatha
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kelly Laton, age 58, who departed this life on October 9, 2024, in Hiawatha, Iowa. Born and raised in the area, Kelly was a proud graduate of Jefferson High School, Class of 1984.
Throughout her life, Kelly dedicated herself to her work and her family. She was a familiar face at the Kennedy High School cafeteria and enjoyed her seasonal role at Culver’s, where her warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Kelly is survived by her daughter, Heather Moore, and her cherished grandsons, Malakai, Julian, and Aiden. She will also be deeply missed by her mother, Della Riggins, and her stepfather, Roger, along with her two sisters and many extended family members. Kelly’s father, John Moore, and stepmother, Diane, along with her siblings, also hold her memory dear. She is remembered fondly by her ex-husband, Tom Frederick, and his family, as well as the family of her late husband, Dave Laton.
Kelly was well-loved for her generosity, selflessness, and the strong bonds she formed with friends and colleagues. She enjoyed playing pool, often traveling to tournaments, and creating joyful memories with those around her. Her love for life and the people she cherished was evident in the many roles she played—whether as a friend, an “adopted” mom, or auntie or sisterly figure to so many.
Kelly will forever be remembered for her warm hugs, her love for others, and her ability to make everyone feel understood and cared for. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of life for family and close friends will be held at a later date.
