Kellner, Louis G.
Louis G. Kellner, 74, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew Catholic Church, by the Rev. David Beckman. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Lou is survived by his children, Jim (Kelly) Kellner, Ann Kellner and Linda Kellner-Smith, all of Cedar Rapids, and Colleen (Paul) Thompson of Spencer; grandchildren, Aaron (Jo Vivian Jenkins), Donovan, Cassondra, Makayla, Justin and Schyler; great-grandchildren, Ariana, Louis and Semia; brothers, Mathias Kellner of Stewartville, Minn., Sylvester Kellner of Rochester, Minn., and Paul (Carole) Kellner of Eau Claire, Wis.; sisters, Viola (Jim) Gartner of Preston, Minn., and Margaret Webb of New Concord, Ohio; sister-in-law, Mary Evelyn Kellner of Stewartville, Minn.; and niece, Debra (Douglas) Kaspar of Reston, Va.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou; brothers, Lawrence and Ken Kellner; and sisters, Lilly Larson and Mary Ann Hyatt.
Lou was born Sept. 17, 1936, in Wesley, to Mathias and Mary Kellner. He married Mary Lou O'Hollearn on July 30, 1960. He and Mary Lou owned and operated the Danish Maid Bakery in Cedar Rapids and Marion from 1969 to 1994. After retiring from the bakery, he worked as a security guard at Rockwell and MCI for a couple of years. He was an active volunteer for Hospice of Mercy.
He was a strong supporter of Camp Courageous and Iowa Hawkeye football.
Lou was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and an Army veteran.
