Donald L. "Don"
Kelley, 68, of 1439 Plum St. in Iowa City, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City after a lengthy illness.
Don chose to be cremated. His family will host a memorial celebration at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Donald Kelley Memorial Fund.
Don was born Oct. 21, 1940, in Iowa City, the son of Horace and Beulah (Gibson) Kelley.
Growing up in Eastern Iowa, Don moved to Iowa City in 1958. He married Cherie Gruwell in October of 1980. The couple later divorced. Don served in the United States Marines Corp. during the Vietnam War. He worked for Sears as an appliance repairman and as a driver/mover for North American Van Lines. He also worked locally for Yoder Feeds and Yellow Cab.
Survivors include his daughters, Amy Preslicka (Jim) of Iowa City and Melissa Grandstaff of Whitehall, Wis., five grandchildren, Michael, Donna, Andrew, Elena and Courtney; one sister, Susan Nordstrom (Bob) of Crescent, and his former wife, Cherie Kelley of Iowa City.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a brother-in-law.
