Keith W. Young, 80, of Marengo, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015, at Rose Haven Nursing Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at First United Methodist Church, Marengo. Burial: Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by a daughter, Vicki (Don) Schafbuch of Marengo; two sons, Douglas (Andrea) Young and Dennis (LeeAnn) Young, both of Platteville, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Travis (Allison) Schlabach, Shannon (Luke) Slockett, Tiffany (Jeff) Simonsen, Chad (Lindsey) Young, Brianne (Shaun) Roberts, Lindsay (Jake) Niebes, Brandon (Katie) Young and Amanda Young; and 12 great-grandchildren, Ashlea and Austin Schlabach, Brynlee and Bryar Slockett, Livia, Levi and Myla Roberts, Jack and Hallie Niebes and Jordan, Jaylynn and Madison Young. He is also survived by three sisters, Cleo Tuttle of Marengo, Carole (Richard) Ballard of Marengo and Sherri (Virgil) Head of Story City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janice K. Young on July 23, 2015; a son, Vance in 1984; a grandson, Darin Schlabach in 1980; and a brother, Garth, in infancy.
Keith William Young was born Dec. 6, 1934, in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Leo and Norma Patterson Young. He received his education in the Conroy Elementary and Marengo schools. Keith married Janice Kay Hartz on Dec. 31, 1952, in Cedar Rapids. Keith was employed at Amana Refrigeration, Parks Construction and the Marengo Ready Mix for 21 years. He then started his own business, Keith Young and Sons Construction, which he later expanded to include Linn County Ready Mix, Johnson County Ready Mix and Iowa County Ready Mix. Keith was also a lifelong farmer and he was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Marengo. Keith and Jan enjoyed wintering in McAllen, Texas.
He was a loving husband, father and grandpa and will be missed by all.
