Keith E. Jacobs, 76, of Swisher, died Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, Texas. Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 12, at Shueyville United Methodist Church, 1195 Steeple Lane NE, Swisher, IA 52338; officiated by the Rev. Craig Peters. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, at the church. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at Wilcox Cemetery in rural Viola, Iowa. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Keith Eugene Jacobs was born Sept. 21, 1938, in Marengo, Iowa, to his parents Willard and Elsie (Barnett) Jacobs. He was a graduate of Walker High School in Walker, Iowa. Keith was a United States Army veteran. Keith married Nancy Dudley in June 1959. She died in 1976. He later married Verena (Wyse) McCrabb on Oct. 17, 1981. Keith was employed at Cherry-Burrell (Evergreen Packaging) for 41 years, retiring as an inspector in 2000.
He is survived by his wife, Verena of Swisher; his sons, David (Darcy) of Anamosa and Ron (Marsha) of West Liberty; stepchildren, Sandy Rummells of Atalissa, Debbie (Jerry) Bayers of Selma, David (Ginger) McCrabb of Topeka, Kan., and Carol (Dan) Menke of West Point; grandchildren, Erica (Marc) Jacobs, Brett (Tiffany) Jacobs, Kyle Jacobs and Hollie (Pat) Jacobs; 11 stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Richard (Karen) Jacobs, Harold (Sherry) Jacobs and Linda (Ronald) Coleman.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Nancy.
He was a member of the Shueyville United Methodist Church where he actively helped members of the church build houses and playgrounds for schools in Mexico during Christmas break. Keith was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed boating and camping. Keith also loved motorcycles and riding his Gold Wing trike. He was also a huge fan of country western music. Following retirement, the couple purchased a fifth-wheel camper and wintered at the Casa del Valle Park in Alamo, Texas, where he enjoyed pitching horseshoes. When not in Texas, Keith and Verena spent their time at their home in Swisher.
