Keith Delane Hixson was born on April 29, 1931, in Waterloo, Iowa. He died on Aug. 12, 2021, at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Keith attended the Waterloo school district and the Iowa Teachers College.
A visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021, from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be offered at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories on Friday, Aug. 20, at 11 a.m. with military honors and Pastor Jonathan Heifner officiating. A private family inurnment will be offered at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery-Garden of Serenity.
In September 1951, Keith was drafted and stationed at Indiantown Gap, Pa. In January 1952, he was sent to serve in Korea.
While stationed in Pennsylvania, Keith married the love of his life, Helen DeBuhr, on Nov. 23, 1951, after knowing each other only three months.
Upon discharge from the Army, Keith attended Iowa State University and graduated with a mechanical engineering degree. His career was highlighted by his extensive travels worldwide. Keith was a gifted engineer.
The most important thing in his life was his family. He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Helen; and his four children, Lee (Janet) Hixson, Karen Schreiber, Kathleen (Randolph) Wymore and Craig Hixson. In addition, he had five grandchildren, Tess (Michael) Sellers, Jacqueline Hixson, Ryan (Jess) Hixson, Miranda Wymore and Keith Schreiber; and two great-grandchildren, Melanie and Trevor Sellers. Keith also is survived by two brothers, Dale and Marvin.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Oldorf Hospice House.
